Karen Hughes was born in the Yampa Valley, and while she enjoyed a successful career operating her own business in California, Karen and her family eventually decided to surrender to the “Yampa Valley Curse*” and return permanently to their ranch in the Elk River Valley.

Active in the community, Karen Hughes worked to establish the Hands On! Children’s Museum as a founding Board Member. She actively volunteered and advocated for the North Routt Charter School. Karen is the Chairperson for the Steamboat Community Christmas dinner, sponsored by realtors and open to the entire community. In that role, she also volunteered her family’s help.

Three sons and a menagerie of animals, as well as a booming real estate career, keep Karen in constant motion.

Karen’s experience as a land surveyor makes her uniquely qualified to help in the design and marketing of large land tracks. Such is the case for Tailwaters River Ranch where she has spent much time on all 19 building sites and knows every feature of the Yampa River flowing through this peaceful 500 acre valley.

Often described as “sunny and authentic,” Karen Hughes brings much to the Steamboat community, to her real estate profession and to the Prudential Steamboat Realty office.
